Local 751 participates annually as a team in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® put on by STAR: Standing Together Against Rape.
There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes."
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s FUN and it gets the community discussing something that's difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence. This event is held every year during the month of April which is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.
Mr. Tell Laulainen, 2nd year Ironworker Apprentice received the trophy for the fastest time on heels at the 2019 STAR event! This is the 4th year in a row that an Ironworker apprentice has won this mile dash! A tradition we hope to continue!
Local 751 also participates in the Associated General Contractors Annual Neighborhood Cleanup to pick up trash and haul off debris surrounding our office on King Street and Schoon Street from Dimond to 76th.
